Why do you need to make a start-up sponsorship payment?
The small payment that MS Readathon asks parents to make, when registering their child/ren, is not an additional fee. It is to ensure that there is parental involvement and approval before we accept a registration.
The start-up sponsorship payment you make is:
- As little as $10;
- Tax deductible (and you receive a receipt instantly);
- Added to your child’s eventual sponsorship total
- Proof for us that an adult accepts responsibility for the Receipt book (which is a legal document); and,
- Ensures the payment process is fully secure through ‘SecurePay’ and National Australia Bank.
If children enter the MS Readathon, but don’t finish the program, this payment is a small contribution to the costs that have been incurred.
We began using this payment system in 2005. Over 12,000 young people registered online and they all completed the program and received certificates. This was a significant increase over 2004 where only half of the web entrants completed the program.
To mark our 30-year anniversary in 2009, and to encourage as many participants to get involved, we allowed parents and children to register without making a start-up sponsorship payment. Unfortunately this initiative, whilst well intentioned, proved unsuccessful.
The money we raise to support Australians living with MS is essential and we need to make sure that we do so responsibly.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for supporting people with MS in Australia.

I’ve finished reading – what do I do next?
You have until 31st of August to finish reading and return your sponsorship funds so there is plenty of time to collect more sponsors and raise money to help people living with MS. You can download a completion form here that can be used to send in cheques and/or credit card payments to our processing centre.
An individual completion form will be posted to you in mid July that can be used to bank cash and cheques at any branch of the National Australia Bank (NAB).
An online payment and completion process is available for you. Click here to pay and complete online.
Your reading rewards will be sent out to you approximately 6 weeks after your sponsorship is processed.
