Hero of the week

September Heroes

Michaela Pryor, SA
Michaela Pryor

Michaela loves participating, as she likes to help people and enjoys reading. The best thing about participating in the MS Readathon for Michaela is reading lots of books. She enjoys any books about dogs. Michaela also liked to visit the website and find out all about Bosko!

Bosko visited Michaela’s school to thank all participants and Michaela drew Bosko a picture with a poem! Thanks Michaela – we’re sure this will inspire lots of children to read to help people with MS!

MS Readathon is cool
I read at School.
Read, read, read.
Donate some money for a good deed,
MS Readathon rocks
When I hear Bosko, I dance in my socks.
Bosko rocks!

Murphy Rivendell, TAS
Murphy Rivendell

Murphy participated in his third MS Readathon this year and raised a fantastic $397 for people living with multiple sclerosis. Murphy participates in the MS Readathon because he really wants to help people.

His mum tells this story: We went to my cousin’s wedding and when asked if anyone in the crowd had something to say, Murphy put up his hand. With microphone in hand, he told everyone the importance of raising money for MS and that he would like any donations. Then, whilst walking the crowd collecting money, he was met by a 30 year old man who told him he was so proud to see such a young man so inspired to help. Then he told Murphy he had MS and Murphy was helping him too.

This has inspired Murphy to raise more money each year, as he likes to outdo himself. His favourite book is ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle.

Murphy, with the brilliant help of his little sister Ellany, made some donation boxes to put around his Mum and Dad’s business. Then, Murphy and Ellany happily approached people and told them what they were doing and who they were helping.

Mitchel and Oliver , QLD
Mitchel and Oliver

Mitchel and Oliver are true MS Readathon inspirations! They spent their school holidays fundraising in their local shopping centre, and as a result have collected over $1000! The boys also distribute home-made flyers, another fantastic demonstration of their commitment to the MS Readathon, and as father Gary says “even if we go out for ten minutes to the local shops or banks, they’re fundraising!”

Both Mitchel and Oliver are enthusiastic readers with each brother having a different taste in genres. Older brother Mitchel prefers crime novels that are unpredictable such as “Lee Raven Boy Thief” by Zizou Corder whereas Oliver loves fantasy epics such as “Dragon Keeper” by Carole Wilkinson.

Mitchell’s secret to success is “Stay focused, challenge yourself and think outside the box”.
