Hero of the week

August Heroes

Katie Page, NSW
Katie Page

Katie is 19 years old and this is the 6th year that Katie has done the MS Readathon. Katie loves to read and gets a lot of enjoyment out of it. She also knows that the money she raises will help people living with MS.

Katie was born with some disabilities. She is described by her family as being a person full of love and patience and a real helper. She brings a lot of joy to everyone.

Katie does not know anyone living with MS. She just decided years ago to start reading and raising money for people living with MS.

One of Katie’s favourite things to do is go Ten Pin bowling with her disabled group. She is obviously very good at it as she has won a gold medal.

Thanks Katie, from all of the MS Readathon team for being such a fantastic supporter.

Belinda Kyatt, ACT
Belinda Kyatt

Belinda is a real MS Readathon star. Last year she was one of the top fundraisers in the ACT region and this year she has again raised over $1,000.

Belinda read an incredible 101 books! An amazing effort to help raise money for people living with MS!

Congratulations Belinda!

Angus, VIC
Angus

Angus says he “likes doing the MS Readathon because I like reading and it can go towards helping people. I especially like reading the Selby books, a series of 19 books by Duncan Ball. My other favourites are the Mr Men and Little Miss books and I’ve read nearly all of the 127 books in that collection! I’m pleased that so far I have raised just over $400 and that is nearly double what I raised in 2007 when I was in prep.”

Angus’ mum, Helen, is thrilled with the success Angus has had in this year's MS Readathon.

“Our whole family loves reading books, so I was delighted when Angus came home from school again this year with the information about the MS Readathon, and asked me if he could participate. So much has changed since I was at school, but it’s wonderful that the MS Readathon is one of the things from my school days that has remained the same, and that I could share this experience with Angus while he collected sponsors, borrow heaps of books from the library, and filled up pages with the books he read. Family and friends enjoyed sponsoring Angus partly because it brings back similar memories for them, and also because they share his enthusiasm about supporting a good cause in such an easy and fun way.”

Lily Fewster, TAS
Lily Fewster

2009 is Lily’s third MS Readathon. In 2008 she was the third highest fundraiser in Tasmania and this year she looks set to be the highest! Lily has already raised $2705!!! What an amazing effort.

Lily is in grade 7 and just loves to read. She thinks the MS Readathon is a great excuse to be able to read 24/7!

Lily’s Mum has MS and she says this pushes her to read and raise as much money as she can. Her favourite books are Ballet shoes, Molly Moon and Francis Bacon.

In our recent ‘My Favourite Book’ competition Lily won a consolation prize for her fantastic review of Lucy Zeezou’s Goal, by Liz Deep-Jones. She recommends it to anyone with or without a love of sports, and a thirst for a good read.

Lily attended our launch in May and helped Bosko to cut our amazing launch cake.

Thank you so much for all your amazing reading and fundraising Lily. You are doing a great job and we can’t wait to see your final total. Maybe you can be the highest fundraiser this year!
